Honey, I know you are struggling just to tread water right now. You don’t want to be off at college despite the pretty scholarships. You don’t want to be back home in the horri
fying soap opera that is your family. I know you want a different life for yourself than they want, and I know you want a way out to breathe for a while. I understand why you are about to make these choices that seem insane to everyone and will eventually to you as well, at least in some ways, and I don’t judge you. The things you have been through recently and the things you have yet to experience are not in the scope of the average person’s reality. However, they make you more of who you already are. While it is a painful experience to be forced on the grinding stone of life so early and often, you are being polished like the finest diamond.
I’m not going to lie, things are hard now and they will get harder in so many ways when you take this leap. That guy you’re dating? He’s such a loser. That guy you’re about to date? He’s an even bigger loser, but I think you already kind of know that. You are a survivor and you will push through the struggles you will encounter over the next few years with perseverance you should be so proud of. Every choice you make right now is leading you to your dreams. Truly.
I believe you’re still collecting quotes, you will find this one in the book George gave you:
“…when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” Paulo Coelho
Can you remember watching My Fair Lady with Mom when you were probably around 8 years old? You told her you would have a little girl named Eliza one day. She told you Eliza wasn’t a proper name. Well, she’s 3 years old now. She loves singing, snuggling, reading, and dinosaurs among many other things. She’s the embodiment of love and joy and beauty and everything that is right with this world. So is her baby sister. Oh your heart will quite literally ache in your chest it will be so full with the love they bring into your life.
You met your best friend, their dad, in a terribly roundabout but adorable way and you have at least spoken every.single.day. since the moment you met. You have so many struggles to face in the years to come, but oh the joys you have coming. The joys will make you cry in gratitude that consumes your entire being. It’s going to be ok. Go stumble and be brave. The life of your dreams is waiting.
“Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears.
And how else can it be?
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.”
